Learn about what makes great hydration

The Basics of Hydration

More is not better

Mega-dosing on electrolytes or vitamins doesn’t improve performance. Your body often just flushes out the excess that it can’t use. Steady daily balance beats high-dose “quick fixes.”

Mega doses of certain ingredients can cause issues when used regularly. Some people may experience stomach or intestinal discomfort, bathroom issues, or unnecessarily high intake of specific nutrients, depending on the formula.

Electrolyte balance

Hydration isn’t just water — it’s sodium, potassium, and magnesium (with amounts of calcium and sugar) working together to keep fluids where they belong. Too much or too little of any one can throw your system off.

A balanced hydration ratio for daily use is 1 part sodium, 1 part potassium, and 0.1 part magnesium, supporting effective absorption and tolerance without overloading the body.

When consumed daily, excessive electrolytes may lead to digestive discomfort or imbalanced nutrient intake.

Sugar, good or bad?

A small amount of natural sugar can help improve electrolyte absorption, but excess sugar adds empty calories and reduces hydration efficiency. The goal is balance — not zero sugar or overload.

For daily hydration, about 2–6 grams of sugar is typically sufficient. Higher amounts may be useful during heavy sweating, long workouts, or illness recovery.

4 grams of sugar = 1 teaspoon.

Benefits of Various Ingredients

Major Electrolytes

Sodium

The key electrolyte for fluid balance. It helps your body retain and circulate water, supports nerve function, and prevents low-blood-sodium fatigue. Without enough sodium, hydration simply doesn’t “stick.”

Potassium

Balances sodium by pulling water into your cells. It helps regulate muscle contractions, heartbeat rhythm, and prevents cramping. Getting enough potassium keeps hydration steady and reduces bloating.

Magnesium

The quiet multitasker — supports muscle and nerve relaxation, energy production, and electrolyte balance. Even mild magnesium deficiency can cause fatigue, tension, or hydration imbalance.

Minor Electrolytes

Calcium

Supports muscle contraction, bone strength, and nerve signaling. In hydration, small amounts help muscles fire smoothly and prevent cramping when combined with other electrolytes.

Chloride

Pairs with sodium to maintain fluid balance and proper stomach acidity. It’s naturally present in most diets, so only trace amounts are needed in a hydration mix.

Phosphorus

Helps your body produce energy and maintain healthy pH balance. It’s abundant in everyday foods, so supplementation isn’t usually necessary for hydration support.

Wellness Support

Vitamin B1 (Thiamin)

Converts carbs into energy; supports nerve and muscle function

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

Helps with cellular energy production and antioxidant recycling.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Supports healthy metabolism and blood flow.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

Essential for hormone balance and stress response.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

Aids amino acid metabolism and supports mood balance.

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Vital for brain & nerve health, red blood cell formation, and sustained energy.

Vitamin C

A powerhouse antioxidant that supports immune strength, tissue repair, and skin health. It also helps your body absorb iron and recover from physical stress.

Vitamin D

Essential for immune defense, mood balance, and calcium absorption. Many people are deficient, especially in low-sunlight months, making this nutrient a daily must-have.

Vitamin E

A fat-soluble antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Commonly included in some hydration and immunity formulas to support general wellness and recovery.

Zinc

Crucial for immune response, wound healing, and cell repair. It works closely with vitamin C to shorten recovery time and keep your defenses strong

Choline

Supports focus, brain health, and hydration at the cellular level. It helps maintain nerve communication and muscle coordination, keeping both body and mind balanced.

Elderberry

Packed with plant antioxidants that help the immune system respond to everyday stressors. Traditionally used to strengthen natural defenses during cold and flu season.
